BlackBerry Internet Services collapse
BlackBerry maker Research in Motion this afternoon confirmed that an outage has downed BlackBerry Internet Service (BIS), in various parts of the world, including SA.
While a local spokesperson for RIM acknowledged this afternoon that BIS has been affected, she did not have any further details at this stage.
A brief statement released by RIM states: “We are working to resolve an issue currently impacting some BlackBerry subscribers in Europe, Middle East and Africa. We’re investigating, and we apologise to our customers for any inconvenience caused while this is resolved.”
The scale of the problem is currently not known, but posts on social media platforms, including Facebook and Twitter, suggest that users have been affected large parts of Europe, Middle East and Africa.
Various local sources have also confirmed to ITWeb that services, such as BlackBerry Messenger, Web browsing or Web-based e-mail, have not been available for most of the day.
